How will you restore the database as you have destroyed your previous backup by overriding it? The database you were backing up states it is now corrupt. You restart the server and launch SQL Server Management Server.Half way through the backup the server crashes. You start your backup which overrides your previous backup file. This is done intentionally so that you don't accidently override Why create a backup if you're just going to override it? I don't believe you can specify a filename without a date. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. Please remember to click "Mark as Answer" on the post that helps you, and to click "Unmark as Answer" if a marked post does not actually answer your question. My recommendation is that you may keep one months full/differential/transaction log backups at least, and two or more copies of them even better to store them on separate data centers. This should be OK in most of cases, however, keep in mind that you will lost the ability to recover the database to the point prior to one week or in the past one week if thoseīackups are no longer valid for any reason. In this case, you can utilize the latest valid full backup and latest valid differential backup based on that full backup and all transaction log backups after that differential backup and the veryĪnother problem is that only one week's history backups will be kept. Moreover, instead of performing a full backup each day, you may only need perform one full backup per week and differential backup each day since differential backup only backs up data extents changed since the last full backup and a full backup willīackup all the data pages no matter it is changed or not. If it is in simple recovery model, you can only recover the database to the point of the last full backup. Lose and cannot give you point in time recovery if the database disaster happens. What is your database recovery model? If it is not in SIMPLE recovery model, you may also need to do Transaction Log backups otherwise transaction log will be never not truncated and may you may involve data I see you only perform full database backup. ![]() In this case, I would like to create individual jobs with backup query with specified backup file name with appropriate schedule, which means you may need to create 6 jobs, each of them backup the database on each day from Monday to Saturday. ![]()
